Other important factors in pearl value are: 1.  Size - a 6mm pearl will cost 5-6 times more than a 3mm.  A 7mm pearl will cost 10 times more than a 3mm; 2.  Shape - the more round the more valuable; 3.  Luster - you can see reflections of things in the room; 4.  Blemishes - clean & blemish free is best;  5.  Color - can vary - usually rose, silver white, or cream; 6. Matching - pearls in jewelry should match in size, color, and quality. The jewelry I sell with high quality vintage saltwater cultured pearls will cost more than jewelry with low quality or imitation pearls, but it will last for many many years and you will know you are wearing a quality piece of jewelry. A note about 'gold filled':  Solid gold is so expensive now, that 14k gold filled is the next best thing.  It looks like gold & it wears like gold.  Like with any fine jewelry, if you take care of it, your 14k gold filled piece will last a lifetime.  Gold filled wire is actually a tube of gold filled with another metal and does not have a finish that can wear off.  It is considered to be 'fine' and will test as gold on a gold tester.   It contains 100 times more gold than 'gold plated'.  'Gold plated' jewelry is cheap & will last a very short time, because the metal piece of jewelry is only electroplated with a very thin layer of gold (usually 10k) and wears off easily after a few wearings.  14k gold filled has 100 times more gold than electroplate.  All of us have experienced the disappointment of having a piece of jewelry we loved become unwearable because the finish wore off.  That will never happen with 14k gold filled jewelry.
