I'll admit this is kind of a nitpicking question, but New Mexico law actually distinguishes between the two in its body of statutes pertaining to Native American jewelry. In the simplest terms, you could substitute the term 'hand assembled' for hand made. This could mean, for example, that the artist purchased machine tooled design elements and then incorporated them into a piece of jewelry. Hand crafted jewelry, however, means that everything is hand made from scratch so to speak. With the exception of the machine made link chain, the remainder of this superior 22" necklace is 100% hand crafted as is the matching bracelet, ring, and earrings. Famous Navajo artist Clem Nalwood specializes in variety of necklace sets. Most of them have stones, but this is his rarely made all sterling silver set that will simply take your breath away when you open the package! Over the years, Clem has created his own fresh and original version of the Navajo nature motif that emphasizes flowers, raindrop beads, and puffy clouds. The necklace features three round 1" in diameter overlaid sunbursts with a diamond design in their centers. The intricate suspended heavily overlaid (four separate layers) repoussé sunburst and cloud pendant in the center surrounded by an array of  overlaid repoussé designs with raindrop bead overlays between each cloud. This lovely pendant measures 1 and 5/8ths" in diameter. Excluding the diameter of the center sunburst bead and the suspended pendant, laid end to end the necklace is 19" long. This same repoussé cloud and sun design is repeated on both sides of the necklace immediately above the top sunbursts on the necklace in the center and are nearly identical to the repoussé designs on the large suspended sunburst pendant. The sun and cloud repoussés follow immediately above the sunbursts with graduated repoussé clouds, hand stamped (two different kinds of sunrays) sacred shell overlays, and rain drop bead overlays. These two curved sections measure 2" long with a maximum width of 3/8ths." Each design element in this necklace has a solid sterling silver back which is another indication that this is an artist who refuses to cut corners! The nature motif represents the natural elements that grow and sustain all life. The gorgeous matching sterling silver bracelet repeats the large sunburst design as described above with the suspended repoussé stamped sunburst pendant. The artist added hand stamped sacred shell overlays like those on the necklace next to the sunburst bezel followed by by two miniature overlaud sunbursts. The bracelet is 1 and 5/8ths" wide in the center with its three triangular wire bracelet frame gracefully tapering to ½" in width at both shanks. It has an inside measurement of 5 and 5/8ths" with a carefully adjustable opening gap of 1 and 1/8th." If your wrist is 6¾" to no more than 7," this bracelet should fit with little or no gentle adjustment of the shanks and/or terminals. The matching sterling silver post back drop style earrings for pierced ears feature hand stamped overlaid sacred shells and an overlaid suns repoussé theme. They measure 1 and 9/16ths" by ¾." The size 7½ sterling silver ring features a three dimensional triple overlaid sunburst designs with hand made sterling silver rain drop bead and three dimensional cloud repoussés surrounding the sunbursts. Clem added repoussé suns, overlaid miniature sunbursts, and rain drop bead overlays on each size the bezel. This bezel measures 1 and 13/16ths" by 7/8ths" with a shank width of 3/16ths." Overlays are created from separate sheets of sterling silver, removed, and then bonded one later at a time to create a multi layered three dimensional design. Repoussés are also three dimensional designs but are created by using a hot mold to push outward on heated sterling silver to create the design. This technique is thought to be at least 70 or 80 years old. This is a museum and collector quality set that you'll find many, many occasions to show off!
